Internship opportunities at the Permanent Mission of Cyprus to the UN, New York

The Permanent Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations in New York is seeking applications for unpaid internships, for the period of October 1st until December 15th, 2019.

Candidates must be Cypriot citizens or eligible to acquire Cypriot citizenship.

Qualifications

Candidates must have an excellent command of English, both oral and written.  Knowledge of Greek is desirable, but not a prerequisite.

Applicants should either hold a university degree, or equivalent qualification, or currently be studying at graduate level.  Candidates with a degree and/or experience in one of the following fields are particularly encouraged to apply: Political Science, International Relations, Law, Economics, Development, Human Rights, Disarmament/Non-proliferation.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in international affairs in general and the United Nations in particular, including the role of the European Union at the United Nations.

Tasks

Successful candidates will work alongside diplomatic staff and will have the opportunity to gain unique experience in the work of the United Nations, inter alia through:

  • Attending and reporting on meetings at the United Nations on a broad range of issues.
  • Assisting and supporting the Mission’s diplomatic staff in their everyday tasks.
  • Conducting research and preparing memos on UN-related issues.
  • Helping with outreach activities and any other events.

Confidentiality, good analytical, communication and organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team, resourcefulness and integrity are essential qualities for successful candidates.

Visa Requirements

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations will assist selected interns in satisfying the United States immigration requirements for the duration of the internship. Prospective interns already in the United States should consider whether their immigration status permits them to undertake the internship, and, if not, whether they would be eligible to require a G2 visa.
