The President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias will visit New York on 23 September 2012 to attend the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly. President Christofias will address the General Debate on 25 September, the opening day of the UN General Assembly. On 24 September, the President of Cyprus will deliver a speech at the High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on the Rule of Law. On 26 September the President will give a Press Conference to UN accredited journalists.
During his visit to New York, the President will hold a series of bilateral meetings, among which, meetings with the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of Greece and of the Russian Federation. President Christofias will also have the opportunity to have a meeting with the UN Secretary-General as well as with the new Serbian President of the UN General Assembly and will host a luncheon to the Five Permanent Members of the UN Security Council.
President Christofias while in New York will also have meetings and contacts with the leadership of the Greek-American community.
As current President of the Council of the European Union, President Christofias will host on 26 September at Lincoln Center in New York, a Recital by renown Cypriot pianist Cyprien Katsaris entitled “Cyprus: Musical Philoxenia” which will be attended by Heads of State and Government, Foreign Ministers, Permanent Representatives, Senior Officials of the UN Secretariat and distinguished members of the Greek American community. The Recital is supported by the Cyprus Federation of America.
President Christofias who will be arriving to New York with his wife Ms Elsi Christofia, will be accompanied by the Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, the Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou and the Under-Secretary to the President Titos Christofides.
