The UN General Assembly on June 21 2012, adopted the annual budget of all peacekeeping operations including UNFICYP’s, for the period July 1 2012 –June 30, 2013. The total funding approved for all 14 UN peacekeeping operations amounted to 7 billion U.S. dollars while the financing of the peacekeeping force in Cyprus for the above period amounts to 56.97 million U.S. dollars. The General Assembly was acting on the recommendations of its Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary).
The resolution of the Financing of UNFICYP, recalls, among others, SC Resolution 186 (1964) on the establishment of the Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus and subsequent resolutions on the renewal of the mandate of UNFICYP including the most recent one, resolution 2026 (2011) which renewed the mandate of the Force until July 19, 2012.
The resolution also expresses appreciation for the voluntary contributions by the Governments of Cyprus and Greece to the budget of UNFICYP, of 1/3 of the cost of the budget and of a 6.5 million, paid yearly by both governments respectively.
