On Monday, April 30 2012, the Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN Ambassador Nicholas Emiliou was elected by consensus as the new Chairman of the UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country a post that Cyprus holds by tradition for many years.
The UN Committee on Relations with the Host Country was established in 1971 by UN General Assembly resolution 2819 and its composition is made by 19 member states including the five Permanent Members of the UN Security Council.
The Committee deals with a full range of issues concerning the relationship between the host country and the United Nations community such as the security of missions and their personnel as well as with diplomatic privileges and obligations towards the Host Country.
