Open-ended Working Group on Ageing

The Fourth working session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing has started its work today at the United Nations Headquarters and will last until August 15, 2013 with main objective to strengthen the protection of the human rights of older persons. At the opening session, the Representative of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Stelios Makriyiannis, has been elected Vice-Chair of the Bureau of the working group. Mr. Makriyiannis will also moderate the Panel Discussion 2: Update on multilateral processes, which is going to be held on August 13.

Nicosia, June 7 (CNA) – There has been no discussion on a possible return of the Turkish occupied fenced-off town of Famagusta to its legal inhabitants in exchange for allowing direct flights to and from the illegal Tymbou airport, in Cyprus’ northern Turkish occupied areas, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has said.

This issue is not under discussion, he told CNA in an interview, adding that the Greek Cypriot side has never raised such an issue. [Read more…]
